ISTH 2026

Thank you to HaemSTAR for supporting me, as a clinical pharmacist, to attend the International Society of Thombosis and Haemostasis Congress 2026 in Paris.  I had two posters accepted at the congress and had a fantastic time hearing about the latest developments and networking with colleagues working in thrombosis and anticoagulation from around the world.  

I enjoyed the scientific sessions, but my conference highlights were from two other sessions.

Networking at the Antithrombotic Stewardship Summit

I attended the 3rd Antithrombotic Stewardship Summit and International Networking Session. It was great to be in a room full of fellow antithrombotic stewardship enthusiasts! What struck me was that no matter where you were in the world, keeping patients safe on anticoagulation is challenging. The network of people and resources offered by the Anticoagulation Forum are fantastic. It was great to hear about the Centres of Excellence programme and the resources associated with that. This is a group that I now hope to work with going forwards, and I made some good contacts.

Learning more about joining an ISTH Scientific and Standardisation Subcommittee (SSC)

I attended a ‘meet the leadership’ session in the Early Careers Lounge. It was nice to have an informal chat with leaders of the ISTH SSC and explore avenues for involvement. They explained that you could join an SSC subcommittee as one of the early career designated co-chairs and work with the team to see how best you could get involved with the time you have available/your interests.

I’m grateful to the HaemSTAR legacy fund for supporting me to attend ISTH this year and have come home motivated to develop our projects to hopefully share progress and benefits for patient care at ISTH in Vancouver 2027.
